- Choose a place to document photographically for Assignment 1. Using a DSLR camera or high quality phone, collect a number of shots of the place for Assignment 1.
- SHOOT IN LANDSCAPE FORMAT.
- Remember, many things go into describing a place (textures, objects, approaches, etc). Think about individual pieces that make up the whole when documenting your location.
- AS A RULE, TRY AND TAKE ONLY 1 OR 2 MEDIUM OR WIDE SHOTS OF YOUR PLACE.
- Avoid cliche places that don't offer the potential for creative interpretation (the Morris Library, the SIU clock-tower, your living room, your front porch, your backyard)
- *If you're using an Iphone at any point during the semester, set your image preferences to shoot in JPG rather than in HEIF (high efficiency image format). Or better yet, download Lightroom Mobile or another App that shoots in RAW for your phone.
- Take 8-10 images that you think describe the personality of your place. Then take 30-40 images of details, close-ups, interesting angles, etc.
