Moving Image - artist presentation
Assignment:
Conduct personal research on an experimental moving image artist and present to the class.
Objectives:
1. Personal investigation of a moving image artist
2. Gain a broader awareness of possible uses for digital media
3. Establish a list of places to view experimental moving images, video, and film - online and off
4. Share ideas and artists to our class community
Instructions:
1. Choose an artist that uses moving images as part of their artistic output.
Artists should fit the following criteria:
a. artist works independently in fine art and their works are not part of a large production team
b. their work is experimental and incorporates some form of animation, video and/or sound
c. you can conduct siginificant research on your artist including finding reference materials in print form (books, magazines)
d. you can collect multiple visual examples of the artists work including images, video or animation clips
* As this is a research project, the goal is to investigate an artist who you aren’t currently familiar with and who doesn’t come from mainstream media (ie. Pixar, Cartoon Network, Comedy Central,etc)
* Avoid YouTubers who use high production methods to deliver their content.
2. Research the artist.
Research doesn’t mean looking at just a YouTube and Wikipedia.
You must have at least 5 referencs including at least 3 from printed sources (books, articles, catalogues)
3. prepare a 5-8 minute presentation of the artist
• prepare your presentation for the class using your choice of presentation software (Keynote, PowerPoint, PDF)
4. complete a bibliography in MLA format
What to include in your presentation:
1. include the following information
• Biographical information: DOB, location, education, personal history related to their artistic output
• Background historical: teachers, artistic movements, political movements, at the time of their maturity
• Explanation of how moving images are integral to their work (technologies, techniques, software, etc.
• Visual examples: scanned images, digital images, video clips, movies, etc.
• Short synopsis of How, Why, and Where this artist fits into the world of digital imaging/ moving images
• Short synopsis of why you chose this artist and what you can take from their work, ideas, etc.
• Presentations should be simple and concise.
• Have all resources ready to present in your presentation file
What to Turn in:
- include a strandard MLA formatted bibliography at the end of your presentation file.
- Presentation file (PDF, PPT, etc)
